Katherine,
my eyesight is as decrepit as the rest of me, so if I'm mistaken in thinking your shot is oversharpened, I apologise in advance.
But with your lens wide open, and the birds constantly on the move, I suspect that it wasn't quite as sharp as you'd have liked it to be.
So, I've reduced the sharpness and toned the BG down slightly, to make your subject more prominent.
Finally cropped some of the LH side & bottom away to reposition your subject.
HTH Grin
You're right, they are great fun to watch, when they're active, aren't they?

Well, I wouldn't say impossible, Kathryn, because this isn't bad at all, especially considering that the ostrich was moving. You have managed to get a blurred background, although this is somewhat spoilt by the sharpening, which I feel needs to be done selectively when you want to keep the background as it was. The grass is an area that is oversharpened, too. I have a sharpening brush in PaintshopPro, so just use it on selected areas. I don't know what PS provides in this respect. I agree with Jack about the composition. Try to leave space in front of your subject, for it to move into, and less behind it.
Pamela.

Hi Kathryn.

I've uploaded a mod. in which I've tried to reduce the strength of the greens and give the ostrich a bit more colour.
To reduce the greenness (?) of the background, I desaturated it slightly using just the yellow channel, then I added a touch more red, magenta and blue.
I didn't bother with the composition as that's already been mentioned.
Sadly. now I've uploaded it, it doesn't look all that different to your original which is a shame because the bird had gained some clarity.

Bren.
