This heron allowed me to approach to about 6 feet away and seemed quite unfazed.
The black streaks are reflections of tree trunks on the pond surface.

My thanks to all who commented on Caught On Camera and many thanks for the ID.

We got up one morning to find a Heron standing in our pond..........luckily we only lost one fish.........it was quite unfazed by us staring in disbelief, sadly no camera to catch the moment............GrinGrinGrinGrin

Great portrait with super details. have to say, we don't believe in "friendly neighbourhood Herons" aroung this place. Hads a lot to do with a pond full of fish! Grin

As quickly as they fly off - I think surely that he knew you were no match for him - I recently saw a grey heron up by our lake - I seldom take images of birds as I don't have a long lens, but in this instance too, the heron let me take some shots before he flew off quickly and gracefully. I was not ready for him in the air Sad so probably missed the best shot of the day!

The detail here is excellent and focus on the all important eye is spot on.
