This heron allowed me to approach to about 6 feet away and seemed quite unfazed.
The black streaks are reflections of tree trunks on the pond surface.
My thanks to all who commented on Caught On Camera and many thanks for the ID.
Ronnie.

We got up one morning to find a Heron standing in our pond..........luckily we only lost one fish.........it was quite unfazed by us staring in disbelief, sadly no camera to catch the moment............![]()

P.S. without knowing you've helped my daughter CLARECUM with her first
flower images. She is a florist in Australia and has just bought her first SLR - so all help
will be most welcome.
Stunning head and eye details and a great natural background Ronnie, excellent capture.
Regards
Trev.
Think you've found a good friend here, Ronnie!

A razor sharp heron profile Ronnie, he sounds as tame as the one on the lake at Riverside Park in Gloucester.
So close, so detailed, so friendly too. Lucky you, Ronnie.
As quickly as they fly off - I think surely that he knew you were no match for him - I recently saw a grey heron up by our lake - I seldom take images of birds as I don't have a long lens, but in this instance too, the heron let me take some shots before he flew off quickly and gracefully. I was not ready for him in the air
so probably missed the best shot of the day!
The detail here is excellent and focus on the all important eye is spot on.
