A brilliant helicopter, which has been well caught.

I'm not sure this image works (don't forget all comments are opinions and as such will differ from person to person!). For me, the helicopter is facing the wrong way to have come out of the frame. Also I find all the blurring distracting, rather then showing movement (sometimes less is best! Wink). Just one more small point, the helicopter is rather close to the right hand side. Smile

I am really looking forward to seeing more manipulations from you. I have nothing but admiration for folk who have mastered the art of computer manipulations, it takes lots of patience and practise! Smile

Hi Liam
I see that you have been hard at work again I do not want to be too negative but there are a couple of things which could have been slightly different. Karen is right about the helicopter it facing the wrong way . But never mind it all comes with experience. at this moment what I am looking at two separate objects the frame and the helicopter they both need to act as one at this moment they are not doing that.

Now the helicopter I will give you a little tip for you I see that you have tried to add a sense of movement to the rotor blades good I dear but there is a better way of doing it. I take it you're using Photoshop elements ?

1 Use the polygonal lasso tool ( I find this one the best one )
2 make a selection around one of the rotor blades
3 go to Blur and you are look for motion blur you will get on much better effect of this one
4 angle and distance that's up to you and much you want to put in (angle) and (distance)

I am looking forward to seeing a lot more of your out of bounds photos I am going to give you my award well done liam keep them coming

Have a look at this one this is the way I had done something similar

Hi Liam,

Ive checked out your other out of frame shot and gave it a vote, - is quite good.

Lots of good advice here already so I will try not to reapeat anything, just ad a few comments.

If you used a Mac, - what software did you use, - was it Photoshop or Aperture, or other? If Photoshop, it should work exactly the same on a Mac as a PC, so I suspect this is not Photoshop?

Start with a good helicopter shot. This one looks like its a toy helicopter? If so, - can still work if youre trying to improve your skill. If its an actual chopper, let me know.

The frame is meant to contain the subject, as it does in your whale shot, - might be ok for a little water splash, but not much more.

In this, the blur effect should not affect the frame at all.

Blurring these blades at the angle they are at is extremely difficult to get right.

Start simple first.

Regards

Willie
