Female spider, Tegenaria gigantica, one of three living in the outhouse/shed at the moment.
stunning beauty of a spider,is it dangerous? what exactly is it?
No, it is not dangerous. None of the British spiders can do humans any harm. It's just a good sized common house spider, measuring about an inch or so from nose to tail, though the leg span is much greater.
Horribly good shot!
Back in the 1940s my old Irish step granny taught us the following...
If you want to live and thrive
let a spider run alive.
The old folk knew that spiders ate disease ridden flies and mosquitoes.
Brilliant, and I suppose beautiful, but I would still have run screaming from it!
