Drove down Vancouver Island B.C. from Courtenay to Qualicum in the hope of getting brandt geese images as they indulged in the herring spawn. There was a sea shore full of gulls and I noticed two black birds in the mix. These were oyster catchers and I was thrilled. I approached slowly taking better images on the way. Amazing to me that they behaved as though they were hidden in with all the gulls. Are these birds normally tolerant of a very slow approach? What an odd bird. Odd eyes. Odd pale feet. Wonderful fun getting their detailed image. [ BTW...got Brandt photos as well.

A rather unusual looking bird, however at the same time rather beautiful.

Thank you Nathan and Colleen. This one was a pleasure to find hidden in with the gulls. Got sea lions and brandt geese on the same visit. TG
