The Wombat is the closest relative to the Koala - called here "The Bush Bulldozer", because if he wants to go somewhere nothing stops him; straight through fences and even walls. Rare to see in daylight hours, as they are nocturnal. As the Kangaroo, they have a pouch to carry their young, but the opening is at the rear, so that dirt can't enter when they are digging etc. If startled they can inflict severe wounds with their teeth and claws.
I was sitting under a tree waiting for Swallows who were making a nest in one of the sheds when this bloke paddled along at sunrise - I don't know who got the biggest surprise, him/her or me - managed to get one pic before he/she decamped.
Another forgotten pic on the old harddrive I found yesterday. They grow to three feet or more long, and are as tough as nails. Taken about 6 or 7 years ago.
