I have a couple more composite images today focussing on the pair bond among waterfowl. Once they have paired they generally stick very close together - even their flight often becomes a balletic duet. I have tried to show this in V! ( Shelduck ) and v3 ( Shovellers ).
Sometimes they are split by circumstances - either the advent of a hunting Peregrine or stormy weather for example. When this happens their whole flight 'body language' seems to become agitated (V2 Wigeon) and their need to return to proximity desperate.
This is often anthropomorphized into the concept of 'love' by us darling, gentle, sophisticated, intelligent peaceful, animal loving humans! (Good grief!!)
Do not be fooled, fellow humans, for genes are chemicals and have simply 'created' this concept to make their desire easier to achieve - and the desire is to replicate. And replicate and replicate and replicate.
Look at our own darling, gentle,(etc) species - there are now seven BILLION of us on the planet and we are doing pretty well at aiming to destroy it for our 'peaceful, intelligent, sophisticated etc,' purposes.
How successful is that?
Hope you enjoy them. A

Three stunning in flight shots, all beautifully captured................Martin
SUPER set!
Afrikaans as taal mag dalk vergeet word maar die kultuur verlaat mens nooit nie ![]()
A thought provoking write up Arthur
Three excellent shots - I'm going against the flow and saying that the colours in the birds are wonderful in v3. They get a little lost in the composition, and I would be tempted to crop from the top and the left much nearer to the gate, so that the eye moves over to the right of the picture

Fascinating write up about body language. Agree totally with about us humans. After all as you say just a load of chemicals. We do have the capacity to destroy things though to further and satisy our other desires other than the basic survival instincts of defend and eat. Like the composite images. Great work Arthur. Paul
V1 is my favourite in this terrifc set, it's both a seascape and a natural history image
Three wonderful image, Arthur! My favourite is image no.1! Wonderful colours, light and composition! Excellent!
Cheers
Phil
