For an editorial food review. Usually I light food with one flash head to the rear to provide some skimming texture lighting, and one on camera to provide front fill in and to trigger the main light.

On this occasion I used one Canon 550EX to the rear triggered by a STE2 transmitter on camera, with a tinfoil reflector to the front.

I suppose that it could be argued that the front figs are a little out of focus, but the main focus should be on the sugar sail that casts the shadow.

How can I do it to you? How about the thousands of readers? If the food on the back of the camera looks better than the dish in front of me, I reckon I've won. If a reader feels hungry- result

I was aiming to capture the spirit of the dish, and some of the reflectances and textures.

The pud itself had a life of its own, and wobbled merrily for several seconds after being placed on the table.

Look carefully, and you will see little star shaped highlights on the drops of sauce.

Oddly the place got a mediocre review.

I dont think the lighting works, as it create shadows to the front, and everything at the front is in the dark, which doesn't make the food appealing.

Hi there, well I would not be able to photograph it I would just eat it, and excellent shot I love the way the light filter through the sail!

Thanks for all you help and comments on my desaster photo. you are right I had the white ballance on sunny. the day was not wasted as I did get a few acceptable shots mainly when the light was not bouncing off the water! and I got familiar with moving the setting around.

Everyone has been a great help thank you so much

Susan
