Passage of Arms - SE5A and Albatros (Another one for the Biggles community)

The advent of the SE5a did much to offset the dreadful losses of April 197 - known as Bloody April in the RFC. During the three weeks of that April offensive, mostly around the Arras area, the RFC squadrons lost 245 aircraft and 320 crew members (108 as POW) to the German squadrons with their newly arrived Albatros aircraft. As the SE5A came into service so the tables turned and the RFC never again fell so far behind in the technical aerial battle of WW1.

The image depicts ahead-on passing attack, with no effective result this time, and each aircraft break away to turn hard for another attacking pass - the victory would go to the more experienced pilot, the loser would not return.

Another excellent piece of work Pat.

Speaking of 'Biggles,' I enquired in my local library yesterday to see if they had any of the Biggles WW1 books, or in fact, any Biggles books at all.
The assistant, who was certainly old enough to know what I was talking about, looked at me as if I had two heads and mumbled 'I don't know. I think we might have a couple.'
Carrying out a search myself proved fruitless, so now it's down to the charity shops!

Another cracker Pat. It was interesting last night to see Antiques Roadshow coming from the home base of 2 Squadron now 100 years old.

Yep, 'shiny two' still going on - looked down on, of course, by my old mob of 3 Sqdn as 2 Sqdn only flew balloons in 1912 and 3 had real aeroplanes!! Thanks for the input....Pat
