Trying to practice lighting techniques and composition in portraits. He was at least semi-patient when my 1 last picture kept turning into 4, lol!

As Frank has said, the composition here's not the best.
However, at least your (fairly willing!) model is looking at you and not out of the shot.
I think this would have worked better if you'd got down lower to be more level with his head and upper body when you took the shot. You've missed half of his feet anyway so mising the rest wouldn't really matter!
Also, there's a lot of noise in there which I've removed in my mod using "Noiseware Comunity Edition". (Free and very effective). I've also tweaked it using levels, curves and contrast in CS5.
I've USMed fairly strongly too.
