V1 A pair of my favourite eaters, The Penny Bun or Cep (Boletus Edulis)
V2 Not to be eaten (you'll only do it once, trust me)

This is one of the most sort after culinary mushrooms. Young specimens can be eaten raw in salads. They have strong mushroom flavour when cooked. Once dried, it is excellent for flavouring soups, sauces, stocks.

But with the influx of Eastern Europeans very hard to find quality specimens nowadays as they are out early and strip the woods bare unfortunately, taking more than they can eat.

Many thanks for the CC's on yesterdays upload

a couple of cracking shots, taking them from a low angle really emphasises their stature.

gorgeous light on both. excellent POV. And, no slug holes. How much soil, leaves and branches did you have to remove round them?
I'm drooling. We had a wonderful harvest this year, I'd happily have some more, it was a one week glory and I can only go for them on weekends. Nevertheless, we got 5 meals out of it.

This were both taken on a beanbag. I always like to get to their level and its fun laying in the mud, preparing the area for the final shot. All in all each fungi image can take about 30 minutes to get after gardening the area and getting the right angle and background

The inclusion of the caterpillar is a good addition. Would have been great to see him on the top of the left hand one.

He moved so slow Pete, he made it to that position eventually Wink I couldn't move him he was too fragile for my fat fingers, tried later and flattened him.
Many thanks for the HC

A pair of superb macro captures, Richard. Superb detail, textures and natural colours in both, but the caterpillar in V1 really makes this image special. Congrats on the well deserved HC and UA.

Haha, i saw the thumbnail in the recently awarded section of the front page while i was logged in on my iphone, and instantly thought it was a pic of fruit scones. Ended up popping into the village shop and buying some (probably stale) scones!

You can imaging my disappointment to find out it was actually some shrooms, haha!

Well captured images though!
