More little faces from the carved stone seat by the river in Durham. This is Kathedra by Colin Wilbourn. The seat above represents the calm sanctuary of the Cathedral, with demons swirling around the outside.
Again, a choice of b&w or colour. I love the tones in V2 but V1 is, well, darker. And that's why it's V1.
My thanks to everyone who voted and commented on yesterday’s upload, and apologies for spending very little time on the site. We had to travel down to Teesside, but we now have a colour printer that actually does what I tell it to without throwing tantrums; and I have three copies of the Northumbria in Bloom portfolio, except for a couple of pages, printed off.
Thanks for looking,
Moira

Another interesting capture, Moira! They are certainly not attractive, in fact quite grotesque and ugly! Smile That's one long tongue! Smile

Nice tones and composition! Well processed!

Cheers

I like the guy on the right. The one on the left has just croaked, I think, and he caused it.

Wonderfully tortured expressions Moira, I wonder what was going through the sculptures mind as he composed his work, I like both variants

The little patches of colour are quite magical and hard to dismiss but the monochrome version is so stark and harsh it tells the story better I feel.

Dave, that's rather how I see it. The one on the right is definitely in control

The stuff of nightmares, especially V1! Well captured Moira, and I think I might go for the more beautiful tones of V2 today.

A bit cruel with some of the comments about these handsome chaps Moira.
We all have days when perhaps we do not look our best.

Mono - more dramatic, more mysterious, and more frightening - lots of mores......

I take it the blue light in v2 is reflected from stained glass? That's what kept me looking at that version a bit more, just wondering - if the blue hadn't been there, well pfft.

Anne, this is a few minutes walk from the Cathedral, by the river, on the edge of a little clearing. Light was filtering through leaves. I think the blue tones really come from the sand grains stone itself when it catches the light at certain angles. I find the colour attractive but distracting, which is one reason why I've led with b&w.

'Artistic comp in the image frame,' & excellent color, tonality, & fine clarity, in both image renderings, Moira. The color version, v2, has a little more 'details hidden in the crevices & recesses of the sculpture,' and, therefore, evokes "more photographic impact," for me. Imaginative work, here, for sure.

Don't you just have to wonder about the mind of the sculptor. What was he thinking? Well captured Moira, and mono for me............Sandy

It's no wonder cathedrals always had such carvings incorporated in the stonework somewhere - these demonic faces would certainly be enough to keep people on the paths of righteousness. V1 for me Moira, much more sinister Wink.

The lighting is cool in the way it hits up just enough of the face and puts the rest to shadow. I like your b&w conversion. Nice job.
