First, I'd like to thank Barbarahirst, Ruthannette, Sue_R (Sue Restan) and Lillian (King) for their User Awards on my previous upload, 'Spiralling Down' - it's really appreciated
After leaving the Vatican Museums, I returned to Piazza San Pietro for a quick wander around before heading back to my hotel. This enormous piazza measures 340 metres by 240 metres, and in the centre standing at 25.5 metres tall is the 350 tonne obelisk, which was brought to Rome from Egypt by Caligula in AD 37, and located at its current site in 1586.
I thought this suited the mono treatment, but included the original colour version as V2, so you can takes your pick!

Thanks again to everyone for your votes & comments on my previous uploads, it really is appreciated and encouraging.
