Our Camera Club, Wallasey Amateur Photographic Society, are running a photographic competition for its members and the theme is Merseyside. This obviously restricts members to a fairly small area and it's a challenge as many members already take photographs that are on their doorstep.
The image I've taken is not very original, but the Leeds to Liverpool Canal has only recently been extended to the Pierhead and has opened up new photographic possibilities for local photographers for reflections and colours, and as I've never taken this viewpoint including the canal, I thought I'd have a go. This canal, previously was a grassed area and plaza! The odd, grey shaped building on the left is brand new and houses the Beetles Exhibition as well as a classy bar and restaurant 'Matao' with commanding views over the Mersey towards Birkenhead and Wallasey (where I live).
The Cunard Building (left) became lit up as I'd already started taking photos from this viewpoint (it's is though they knew I wanted the lights on). I've changed the time on the clock from 4:40 (which looks like an unhappy face /\ to 10:10 \/ which is the classic advertising time for all clocks and watches). I've straightened up buildings, increased exposure, burnt in highlights, done a little cloning (especially on the wall, bottom left) and increased the colour saturation and dodged the sky to lighten it in parts and make it look more interesting.
All comments and votes very welcome indeed. Many thanks for all the votes and comments on my precious upload.
Andrew.

Quote: Seems all the hard work has paid off Andrew
What finally swung it, was the fact that the area under the bridge is not totally dark, if that makes sense.
Adrian
Thanks Adrian, your vote and comments are very welcome indeed. Yes detail in the shadows is very important even if it has to be manufactured! I've not ventured into the world of HD yet but I would thought twilight photography would be an ideal candidate for it.
Andrew.
Wow, my first ever guest editor award. Thanks Adrian, a great end to the year.
Thanks also Moira and Sandy, your comments are always appreciated as ever.
(a very happy) Andrew!
Hi Andrew, I have done a mod which has basically taken the role of reducing the noise in the sky ( would be easier from the raw file) I have lifted the detail on the Liver Building and put a little punch into the left hand wall to make the lead-in more eye catching.

I feel honoured to have a mofication from Sir Ed Rhodes, your work is always excellent. I did try and reduce the noise a little from the sky (something I always seem to have a problem with), and the other two mods are also very welcome. Thanks for taking the time to upload a mod, much appreciated.
Andrew.
Thanks Charlotte, Rich and Les for your kind comments. Thanks Les for taking the time to upload a mod, yes I agree the liver building is a little dark, it wasn't lit up the way it sometimes is so it was much darker than normal.
Have a great New Year.
Andrew.
