I have been after a sunset on this Memorial for a while now. I live close by so when it all began to happen i had to run. I had to get a couple of exposures so that I could achieve a slightly surreal feeling. Sue Jane Taylor designed the memorial and loved the pic so much so that she asked to put it on her website. An honor.
I Remember the day when this oil disaster happened as I am sure many of you will. It hit our community and the world really hard and brought about much needed changes in the Oil Industry. I'm no expert by any means but felt equally sad on hearing of the deaths of the 167 men. I watched the installation of the memorial take place and new one day I would get the photograph that would perhaps make us all think and even visualize what these men felt like on the Piper Alpha 20 years ago.

Brilliant photo Paul.
I have been commissioned to write a new play about Piper Alpha (which will run in Aberdeen from 2 to 6 July) to mark the 20th anniversary and would be keen to use your image as a final projection.
Could you get in contact to discuss. Either info@hamepages.com or 07903 463163
Many thanks,
Mike
