Not a big lover of colour popping for the sake of it as often its to disuise an otherwise bland shot.
however in this instance it works well on a couple of levels, firstly its a very strong composition and a great sky with the construction of the image building up or stacked in nice layers of interest. the head on composition telephoto look is a pleasant change to mega wide and the curved structure holds everything down nicely.
secondly the subtle use of two comlementary muted tones adds a lot to this image where the whole row in colour would have been negative use.
i see the need to crop tight at the bottom but i wish the couple walking past had been walking in at the left instead of walking out of the right and i would have liked to have seen their feet included. minor points though as i really like this shot.
Not a fan of selective colour myself but it works quite well in this instance.
The couple bottom right are perfectly placed in my book, adding to the quite busy scene.
The lighting works well and the red filter effect adds that little bit of drama.
For me the top of the picture is screaming to be cropped out, its just an empty negative space adding nothing to the picture and diluting the dramatic busy scene so i tighter crop for me from the top.
I`ll put a mod up in just B&W with a tighter crop.
Thanks for your comments. I really appreciate your critique and note the arguments on cropping. I think both points of view are valid but for me it depends on when I look at it and cannot decide. And cheers to all. Phil
