Yesterday I dragged my new softbox all over the house (I could have used some help with that). It is so big that I had to lower my light stand as far down as it will go in order to barely fit the softbox through the doorways. Here is one of my first pictures that I took with it and after editing I realized that the pose is almost identical to my "quiet thoughts" posting....oh well!

Nice pose, lovely eyes and I like the wispy blur aswell. I would though clone out the wooden headboard on the left, I think it spoils the overall feel of the image. Other than that its another goodun.

I agree. That part of the headboard that's showing is a bit distracting and I'd recommend getting rid of it, too. Otherwise you have done well again, I think, although I have a clear preference for Quiet Thoughts when I compare the two...

I hope your not expecting another 100 plus votes. Smile
I'm getting mixed messages from this photo which I think spoils it.
The face is looking quite serious with little make up. ( i think you should try more of this). There is no glamour or sexiness in that look, I almost get a feeling of a cry for help. There is a meloncolny there. However the rest of the photo is all light and fluffy, pink polka dots & sexy boobs and a dollop of soft focus for good measure ( applied in a rather clumsy way, I have to say).
I loved Quiet thoughts, but for me this photo cant decide what it is.

Thanks all

Ian - Thanks for the critique. I agree about the headboard. I thought about editing it out, but was too lazy to do so. I probably shouldn't have posted this pic without removing the headboard, but oh well, the pic is posted.

No Martin, I am not expecting 100 votes from this photo. Different pic, different lighting, different mood. Agreed, not as nice as QT. Thanks for the critiqe!

I quite like this Rebekah, the head board issue has been covered. I'm not too sure what Martin is on about but after looking at his work, he could have a point. Anyway, your work will only get better and I think we all look forward to that!

I will leave the other comments to the rest, but what I would have like to have seen is a different pose with your head, a gentle look down you shoulder and then looking back into the camera would have so much more power. But considering this is a self portrait I think this is a very good effort and good place to go forward from.

Lovely shot and if this isnt sexy i dont know what is. No makeup or little make up and you look like this well in my book that is just natural beauty. There is a sorrowful look to this but nicely posed and great eye contact and just enough flesh showing. Excellent

You have positioned the model well; I like the subtle blurred image of the bed and pillows; I agree with comments on the headboard; the soft lighting creates an appropriate mood. Where the image doesn't quite succeed I think is in the model's expression. She is a very attractive lady but her expression is somewhat hard to read. With this material it's a key skill for the photographer to act as a catalyst to elicit an emotional response that results in an expression that is 'right'. But it's up to the model too. I spent 10 years as a wedding and portrait photographer and in my opinion this shot is 95 per cent there. Good enough to get my vote.

Having posted my comment I then read through the others. If this is a self-portrait it negates what I said about working with the model to achieve the 'right' expression. With self-portraits it's notoriously hard to achieve a pose that is relaxed and appears natural. In other words, you did extremely well. Try this shot with a professional model or 'a natural' and it will be a winner.

I dont really think that this is the same at QT Rebekah. Similar pose but because of the lighting/colouring and eye contact, it has a completely different feel for me so I'm not going to compare it.

You kind of have a half smile, I suppose it would be nice to see either a full on smile, or no smile at all depending on the intended mood and looking through your PF I notice that generally your portraits dont have full on smiles. It's a shame because in some of your FB pics you're wearing gorgeous smiles.

I dont mean that as a negative thing though cos its a great post.

Thanks all for you comments, critique, and votes.

Chris, you have a valid point. The reason why I semi-smile is because I think that I look kind of "pissed off" when I don't smile. Maybe it's a bad thing to semi smile? I am not sure. I will make it a mission to post a full blown smile, teeth and all, on EPZ soon.
