At a risk of being slated, this is my progress with long exposures.
Love them or not, I just want to be know how!
As you'll see the people fishing were blurred in the 20 second exposure
and I didn't line myself up properly for perfect symmetry, so lots more
to improve on next time.
This pier has actually got a nasty hole in it - seeV2!
I'm scared to walk past the hole!
Many thanks for kind votes and comments re Rose all the Way.

Love the blurry figures Kate.
I am surprised they allow people on it though with that big hole.
(And I will start uploading some of my ''serious'' work from time to time soon !!)
Mick.

Looks pretty good to me, Kate, but cannot offer any help as I have never attempted such.
If figures are included then blur is almost an inevitable outcome.
I suppose you either exclude them or invite them to pose in immobility in Victorian style for the time necessary to expose the for the shot.
Ronnie.

Etherial feel from the long exposure, I like this image, definitely needs the hole closed up to work though. Suprised it hasn't been barricaded off by the council 'elf n saftey team.

Well done Kate & for eliminating that massive hole.. I like this, the colours & symmetry.. I'm not always a huge fan of the white milky water effect but I like the subtle approach here
I must try long exposures. On my to do list

I do love long exposures, Kate and this is no exception!SmileSmile
Your 'repair work' has been done very effectively; I hope you'll be sending the bill to the pier owners!Wink
I had a similar 'ghostly experience' at the Glenevin Waterfall near Clonmany in Donegal!
I do like these ghosts!!

I prefer the ghostlier ghosts of v2, Kate. From a composition point of view I'd probably crop v2 to just above the hole, and a bit off the left to centralise the pier, leaving a more landscape format.

You did very well on the long exposure. I would be petrified to walk by that hole, also, but I like mousing over the two images. It looks like the hole is opening up to swallow an unsuspecting walker!SmileSmileSmileSmile

I am with Nezih in his assessment. I like V2 and think Dave's suggestions about the cropping are quite appropriate.
Cheers, Katie, this first attempt was successful.

Kate, a super start to the long exposure adventure, so creepy I was just looking at west Kilbride before I went to work last night. I like v1 here has some great steel blue tones and a nice pov. There is directions for you on my post today but please be careful on the road when parking.

Bloomin'eck I didn't see this one coming! The ghosty images add to the moody feel of the image and I love the colour tones. I am going for V2 as my fav because the hole is part of the pier and is how it should be. A superb effort into the world of long exposure and I can't believe you expected it to be slated!GrinGrinGrinGrinGrin
