Lacking any other willing models when practcing portraits I settled on Boysie our cocker spaniel. Hes a willing model and only asks for dog bicies as payment.

As ever comments, critiques and mods welcome.

There's a few technicals that could be improved upon, but your model is strong enough to keep them from bothering me too much.

Well done. Beautifully backlit. We also have a black cocker & I despair of getting any detail into her coat.

DOF is too narrow to do a face on portrait much justice. The whole face looks just a touch too soft, yet the grass and the foremost hairs on the ears are acceptably sharp. I'd be looking at f11 or narrower for this type of shot.
Exposure is about 2/3 over as the highlight on the dogs head has been blown out. This is not easy to avoid in bright sunshine conditions, but it can be overcome by either using a diffuser or by shooting in RAW and developing two shots......one for the highlights and another for the shadows and then combining them in PS.

Black dog (I have one) - not so easy to get the exposure and light correct. You've done well on this one. Regards.
