Now some will say I took this purely as it was a fence on a beach (Me? Never!) but infact I was attracted by the soft morning light touching the sand....honest!

Taken Saturday morning at Studland - thanks again to Miles and Geoff for a great morning.

Thanks for stopping by,

Debbie

Love the light in the footprints.

Does look a tad oversharpened, moreso in the large version Wink

Thanks for your comments. Not sure how I've done the oversharpen bit though - nothing out of the ordinary??

Thanks again for your kind comments,
Debbie

For some reason it reminds me of dancing pixies waving borrowed camera/lenses in the air. I need to get out more.

Miles, this is for you :-P

To everyone else, Miles somehow finds it amusing when I hop around the beach in excitement at a beautiful sunrise with a beautiful camera!

Thanks everyone,

Debbie

That Miles is just a nasty piece of work Debbie I'd just ignore him and let him play with his m8s Wink)

On the sharpening thing, not sure how you process so can be certain. It is most prominent at the tops of the poles where a halo is showing, particularly the front two. This could be easily remedied by carefully painting the blue back in where the white halo has appeared, it would not then be so noticeable. There also appear to be some artefacts in the grasses which could just be the compression as I imagine that it was not easy to get this to 200k. easily correct.

I'll give it a go in PS, but may not show up too well at 500px.

Thank you so much Cheryl for your help and for taking the time out to do the mod! I really, really appreciate it.

My knowledge of PS is very limited so I tend to just tweak the curves if necessary, use the USM and then add a border. Miles keeps offering lessons but he's SUCH a hard taskmaster Smile

Thanks again,

Debbie

Hi Debs, hope you don't mind me cutting in again, but have you tried sharpening with a high pass filter? It works well and seems to reduce the halo effect. Also if you have CS2 the smart sharpen seems to be quite effective.

The other nice thing about High Pass is that you can erase the high pass layer in places, reduce it's opacity etc etc, so much more versatile then straight USM over the whole image.

The only one I've kept so far is to only post photos I like, not just the ones I think will do well Smile

Good luck with the keeping fit thing - I did think about it......

you have certainly captured the light on the sand but . . not much of "a Hook" as Henson might say . . . and it's got halo's too! . . but if you like it? then at least your sticking to your reslolution LOL :] . .

What a great thread. Who needs TV for entertainment when you have EPZ! Just remember two things....

1) 350d
2) 17-40L

That should do it!

Hi Debs,

Just following all the chat here...

Don't worry about Miles. He's just a cynical old... anyway, if you want to jump around the beach you do that. Just don't drop the 20d. It may only be a digital camera :o) but they're expensive to replace...

As for the pic, well it's not one of your best, I have to say. Comp is a bit too central and I don't think the tree really works in that position. Light's good, though!

[ EDIT ] Oh, nearly forgot. Some great PS tutorials here.

[EDIT 2] Sharpening: to reduce haloes, reduce the radius in Unsharp Mask and reduce sharpening %. I tend to use 100-200%, radius 0.6 and a threshold of 3. Start with these values and experiment!
