It was raining and very dark when I took the photo. I liked the coloours, the patterns on the floor and ceiling, the line of the lamps , maybe all together are called POV, but I thought that it was impossible for me to get a clear picture, so I tried flash. The flash couldn't reach very far, I had to brighten it up a lot on PS. And then I noticed that the the first lamp was casted a visible shadow by the flash. I don't have any experience of using flash, and didn't know that it would cast shadow. Could you tell me from photographic point of view if it is acceptable or it is some kind of fault that I have to deaal with?Thank you.
The photo was taken outside the old market hall, in Budapest, because it was raining, so I went into the market ...
According to the web,The main Market Hall had been started to built in 1894 by the plans of Samu Petz, and on 30th June 1896, ten days before the handout, there was a fire and 50-60 percent of the roof was perished. The recovery took 9 months. The opening ceremony was on 15th March 1897. The hall was closed in 1991, because it became life threatening. The renovation was finished in 1994.
Thanks.

Its expected when you use a flash. Its simply a shadow. Though I notice it because you pointed it out, I would remove the shadow if it didnt take a lot of time and effort.
The flash, as you say didnt contribute a lot of light, but the light tats there does look decent, so using a flash was in hindsight not a good idea?

Yes, thank you very much Willie. The good thing of using flash.. you might laugh now, .. I noticed that I got less noise.
Being a noise nutter, I tried not to use high ISO, but without tripod, I would be struggling.. I only used the flash a few times. It seemed for me that the flash setting works better at " - " stop . Unlike my lens ( I don't know why Canon didn't put the distance marker on 18-200mm), the good thing of the flash is that it has the distance mark, I can have a vague guess and do the setting. I do prefer manual or "-" a bit.. ..but I'm still not familiar with it. It is just too heavy for me to carry it about and pick them up. I thought this was not women's game
.. 1.5KG, it's like holding a big brick in front of my face![]()
Thank you very much for the shadow advice and MOD... I understand now.. I may have to do some clone work in the future.
Thank you Christopher for your MOD. B&W is an option. It was the colour and the design of the building attracted my attention. The pattern on the celing and the floor seemed a kind of match, also the colour contrast( cold green and warm orange), the lamps' line.. all together were "pulling" into a POV..I even didn't shoot in the straight view, I wanted to show the lamps.. one by one.. going to the bright POV, that was the initial thought. But this is also the interesting part of photograpphy, it shows how we see things differently, and how enigmatic one photo can be..That's also why we stand in the same place, come out with different photos...Thank you again.
A fine image of it'dramas type and tonal range well corrected. I would do nothing more. The flash may or may not help, but can add that foreground sparkle. Just remember that the range is limited and that shadows from the wrong direction with respect to the ambient light can result.
