During a festival in northern India, a lady is seen worshiping in early moring in a winter day. The ladies make this great sacrifice for safety and well being of her family members. It is actually worship of the SUN GOD.

I had a lot of benefits by the critism of good photographers of this site. They have changed my concept of photography and the way it should be done. However, I will again request all my friend photographers to criticise my uploads and advice me how I can improve.

Well done! It is a nice documentary photograph for me. I also like the fact that you shot in in black and white, it evens the colours and let us pay attention to her facial expression, it's really nice that she either didn't notice you or that she ignored you and went on with her offering and her praying. My vision is not perfect at the moment so I had to enlarge the screen to see it better, it may be my current vision problem but I think she doesn't look sharp if I judge by her eyes, does she have tears in her eyes? It would have made your picture even more stronger if she did. To be fair though, you may had not been in the position to shoot it pin sharp, so no harm there. I can't even at this point distinguish well what is this white thing that appears on her left cheek, jewellery? Coming to the camera settings, you have used high ISO, you could get away with 200 instead of 400 and your aperture could have been bigger to blur the background, and it would had given you a shutter speed faster than the one you have used. It's not bad you have included other people there, we know that rivers are places of worship and they can get crowded. I am not sure if the white thing that appears to the bottom in front of her between her arms is a head piece cloth denoting another worshiper. Over all is a nice picture, which I may had attempted to shoot vertically.

Hi Pradyoth,

This is a very nice image and I like your style with this very journalistic photograph. It is a little soft around her eyes with the sharp parts of the photograph being the offerings but this may have been the focus points on your camera. with this type of shot I would always advise using the centre focus point with the focus mode being on single shot, get your focus on her eyes and then recompose keeping the shutter button half pressed. There are some areas in the shadows where the image is a little dark such as where her hands are so I would bring this up a little in post production but otherwise I think that have made a great attempt. The only other area I would possibly look at is maybe and this is only a maybe, but I might like to see a little more of what is going on around her. This would give us more of an idea instead of relying on your description.

I uploaded a quick mod to try and some light around her hands.

Hope this helps

@pablophotographer: Firstly I will thank you a lot for your valuable comments. You have judged every aspect of the shot and done rightly what I need froum you. Dear pablo this picture was taken early in a winter morning before sunrise. The eastern sky was slowly getting rid of the darkness and the first rays of rising Sun is greeting the people on the earth. As per the rules all the worshippers should stand in waist deep water and offer their prayers. As there was no adequate light there I had to high the ISO and shutter speed. Of course, my lack of experience has played a role here. The white on her left cheeck is not jwellary, it is the smoke accumulating from the insence stick she is holding on the plate. Dear pablo I have originally taken this shot in colour but converted into b&W using photoshop. I will uploadthe coloured one also please see that also and let me know which one has appealed you most. Thanks.

@Davesumner:Thanks Daves, for your valuable advices. Dear, in this shot I specially tried to emphasize the expression playing on her face. This lady , amoung around 150 ladies on the bank of the river, I found have very deep expression on her face. That is why, I did not include other worshipper ladies in this frame. As this shot has been taken in very low light without flash, I had to excercise my own experience to take the shot. The picture was taken in colour and then converted into black and white. I will upload the coloured verson also and will invite your suggession. Thanks.

This is good, but your later coloured version is better - because of the colour. Comments on cloning some distraction as on colour.
