cormy and I went to the races...again...yesterday, The sun shone and everyone had a great time.
I saw this chap in the hat and it took me back many years to the time when if we saw someone in a hat like this we would have to ...lick our thumb, stamp our thumb to our palm then press our two fists together....crazy or what. Does anyone remember doing this?

I certainly remember my father doing it, ahhhh, memories. Lovely capture, Mavis. Carol
A bit confusing this one Mavis. Candids don't always work. We have people looking in three different directions and we could do without the TV aerial. I cannot rememember doing that little thing but then of course I am not that old.
Interesting collection of characters in this candid. Never heard of your crazy little routine, we had some as kids but can't remember them now.
Albert
A nice little candid grouping, better without the aerial. Have you considered dodging the face of the man in the panama just a touch to lighten the shadow thrown by the brim?
I have never heard of your routine. However, if when we next meet I am wearing one of my panama hats I shall look out for your antics!

Superb study of the racing crowd,Some great characters.Very interesting.
Cheers

Done a few crazy things, but not your one !! It was just the normal things we did.Like super glue on the toilet seat.Or tying two doors together in a stair with a bit of string and ringing their bells.Or a dead mouse in my sisters boots.Just all the normal ones really !!
The guy with the binoculars had a hat like my father wore.We put black shoe polish on the inside rim once.He had a good sense of humour and saw the funny side.He drew the line however, when we wanted to do the same to my mothers hat for my sisters wedding. He said that Cherry Blossom polish was expensive stuff !!
Mick.
Brilliant comments but I must be so old for you all not to have done this. Maybe it was a Southoport thing, before Liverpool moved in!!
(I am a Liverbird so I can be a little rude)
We had a lot of daft customs when we were kids but not that one. I like this image for the spontaneity and the way that the racegoers are all doing their own thing. There is a good separation between thw people as well. V.2 looks better without that aerial. Andy
V2 is definitely an improvement on V1. I'm interested in Danny's comment, I don't find the image confusing, I think your low viewpoint makes the different angles work. The effect is dynamic, and successful for me.
Never come across your little ritual, but Bill's collection of hats would keep you occupied!

Beautiful candid with a vintage feel; especially in V2, which is much better; well cloned! ![]()

Wonderful candid image love the pp work in No2... that really makes a diffrence
Wonderful capture of the race fans...V2, really makes a difference....Sandy
Well done on the cloning - good work. I can't remember doing that thing as a child but then again I don't remember a lot of things I'm that old! haha.

For me it is the guy with the binoculars who needs a hair cut-- amusing image!
Jennnnnn
Excellent image Mavis, good work on the cloning out of the aerial
Bernie
brilliant, the bloke on the left looks like he lost and the girl looks like she won
