This is a shot i originally added as a variant on my "Sinister" image from a while back. I was reading through a thread on the forum relating to texturing images yesterday and there was lots of useful information.
This is my attempt to add textures to this image. Does it work?
Original shot is HERE

Thanks for looking Smile

Does it work?

Yes and no IMO Gary. The quality of light in the tree branches was better, more subtle in the original version. But I think that the reaper himself, his shadow and indeed the whole of the foreground works better in this version ..... more stylised and suiting of the subject matter.

How about applying a layer mask to the texture layer and running a vertical grad up it to fade the opacity of the texture towards the top of the image. Worth a play methinks.

Fine image though ..... plenty of atmosphere.

I like your first rendering Gary. The absence of the puddle in this is a shame as it gave a good depth to the picture in my opinion. All said, this is a fine job.

Works for me Gary, good framing with the trees and the light is very atmospheric can see why you added the reaper to this.

oh yes, this is fabulous, the original was sort of real and brilliant, but this is what nightmares are made of - so very clever. Would make a good book cover. Ann

Still a magical image Gary.

imho , The texture has enhanced certain parts but the "apparent" lens flare orange on the tree rhs is a slight distraction.

The images success is how it draws the viewer to the figure , the depth , but the flare stops you a third into that viewing.

Perhaps re-scaling the texture so its out of frame would be an idea.
