The fox is a remarkably adaptable and successful animal found, where food is plentiful, in almost every type of habitat. It is a success because it willing to eat almost anything and has become particularly adapt at surviving alongside man in farmland and urban areas.
The fox is unmistakable with its bushy tail, large ears and narrow muzzle.Coat colour can be extremely variable, usually reddish-brown on top with lighter underside, but much darker or silvery forms are not uncommon.
The mating season is December to February, when the vixon can be heard at night uttering its eerie, high pitched scream. Four or five cubs are born in the spring and the female fox stays with them in the earth for two weeks, fed by the dog fox. They remain with their mother until autumn when they disperse to find territories and mates of their own.
The life expectancy of the fox is short; 12-18 months in urban areas,(58% are killed on the roads) and rarely beyond 3 years in rural areas.

Cracking shot. Very sharp. Would personally taken it at a slightly lower angle to give the face more impact

Great shot
Bit sad about his life tho'
Cant be much fun being a fox
Stunning capture, well done. Excellent details and colours.
Quote: Strange how mankind wants to destroy beautiful creatures like this.
While this is a superb image accompanied by interesting information, in my country where these creatures are not native they cause a great deal of destruction to the native wildlife to the point where some species are seriously threatened.
An excellent shot. Good dof and I like the lighting on his head. I didn't realise that rural foxes had such a short life span.

Beautiful capture David, looks great in the frost, Adrian
First of all, it's difficult to tell looking through fifty-year-old eyes at a photograph displayed on a fifty-month-old laptop, but this photograph looks perfectly exposed to me. As far as I can see, there are details in both the highlights and the shadows.
Secondly, the fox's eyes appear to be razor sharp, so you have focussed on main subject. Your choice of lens, aperture and distance from the main subject has produced sufficient depth of field to render the rest of the fox sharply in focus, whereas the background is reduced to a blur. This draws the viewer's attention to the main subject.
Finally, I like the diagonal composition of the photograph. But, if I were to criticize, I would say that there is a little too much empty space on the right-hand-side of the photograph. I think the composition would be more balanced if a little of the right-hand-side of the photograph were cropped. However, that said, top of my wish list is to have seen Basil's brush!

Excelent shot like you say they can flourish almost anywhere, they get into the works around my area we must have the only black foxe`s in the country.
"58% are killed on the roads", this is so sad...Amazing capture Betram, hard to get such a good shot!
have a nice weekend,
Gabriel
