This was taken last sunday morning on a walk over to Redmires Dam, I really liked the changing light and shadows that fell over the snow drift

A good image that works well in mono Matt. Personaly I would have liked more emphasis placed on the snow drifts which I have shown in the mod, also a little contrast adjustment to help bring out more detail in the foreground drift.

Matt, it's a good capture of a lonley Winter's scene, nice shot.

Thanks Martin, I like the mod... I tried a similar crop on the post but it removed too much at the top, how did you stretch it

Hi Matt,
I used photoshop, first go to "select" and then select "All" this will put marching ants all around your image, then into "edit" and select "free transform" click on the middle left hand side box and drag.

Hope this helps.

ahhhh that Matt Wink Glad you've joined epz Matt I've just tried to send a personal message to you but you have to be on the site for a month. This is an easy site to make contacts and people will always offer advice and criticism if ask for (and when not). Flick around Matt leave a few comments & votes (If you leave a comment people will know it's you but not if you leave a vote only) have a look at other pf's and get some ideas. I tend to use epz more than flickr so if I can help in anyway get in touch. Oh by the way, the image of Ladybower and Crook Hill may be used in "The Derbyshire" magazine for March (they are certainly using some of mine from the Peaks) so thanks again for the name.

Hi Matt,

Its a tad dull on my monitor, so i'd guess the white balance of the camera was off a bit.

I like the lead in lines but think they could be more dramatic from top and bottom so have cropped the LHS to add more drama. I've increase contrast to make the white white and then just sharpened it once more for impact again.
I hope you like this as constructive critique.

Cheers
Stuart

p.s. i used google picassa. its good for small mods.

Stuart Hi,

I was a little wary of blowing the highlights after the critique of my last image but I do like the extra contrast and sharpening that yours has… the snow drift does stand out a lot more,
Thanks
Matt

Thanks Matt Smile I think good Art and Photography is nothing more than a bunch of opinions that some groups of people share at a particular time. We all have opinions but they are not facts, like you i keep adjusting my style to reflect other's opinions, but then also do my own thing as well - both are right.

Welcome to Epz.
Stuart

I like the crop of the mods giving a better lead in, but feel the increase in contrast is a bit too much. Your image is a touch flat due to a little under exposure I think. You are right to protect the highlights, but I think you can lift them a little without loosing detail - although not too much.

I realise few people will bother with a hand meter these days, but a decent hand held incident light meter is unbeatable in difficult conditions such as this.

This is a nice image in general and looks good in mono.
