Continuing with my sculptures series, though far less dramatic than my last one, this is one of the faces of the people in the "Rights Of Man" sculpture in Santo Domingo Square, Murcia, Spain. Also known as the Peace Monument, it's a monument to human rights, by one of the most important Spanish sculptors of his generation, Mariano Gonzalez Beltran, who has a wide international presence and imbues his work with “idealistic or humanist figuration”, quite unmistakeable in the contemporary art scene.
The statue consists of many bronze figures making a circle of life-sized standing linked men, women and children, and symbolizes a society living in harmony with the rights of man.
V2 shows the same woman, heavily pregnant, and V3 shows the whole monument, though only from one side of the circle. Some figures have faces, some do not.
Unfortunately, the square is very busy and has lots of restaurants, but I decided to leave the backgrounds as they were.
I'll be showing some more closeup detail next time.
Pamela.

A very interesting and beautiful piece of work - a bit of a shame about the background! But certainly worth presenting to us here, Pamela, especially those wonderful tones and textures Smile

I think he has got it right ,the only thing we should have as a right is to live in harmony with due consideration for others.anything else should be earned ,A Spanish thing ,Pamela even little villages usually have some kind of artwork on show.I have no problem seeing them in real situ.Good stuff.

What a sculpture! Very good shots of it, Pamela, and I don't think the background distracts. It gives the sculpture context.
