Another one of Robyn, this time in full colour. the pink in the background was created with a pink gel filter attached to one of the lights which has also resulted in pink fringing around her hair line, not so sure that this has worked but I quite like the effect with the striking pink dress.
I am experimenting a bit more with my portraits just lately, both in the studio and during processing.
Comments and critique are always welcome, good or bad, it's all considered and taken on board and I believe it's what makes us all strive to improve our photography and processing techniques.
Many thanks for taking time to view, comment and vote. Your support is always greatly appreciated.

I was just thinking before I read your blurb that I like the attractive pink glow around her hair and on the curtain. Very nice styling and eyecatching image. Love the pose and good use of the curtain.
One small thing, I'm not sure if I like the black corner top right as it doesn't seem to make a statement or add anything and could be distracting.

Thanks Chris, I did wonder about that...it's where the soft box behind the model finishes, I'll have a go at cloning it out and upload the result when I get a minute. Thanks for your comment.

the model looks a bit miserable Fran and the lip makeup is a little heavy, you maybe need to gel with HER more but a good shot
The vivid pink certainly makes this one stand out from the crowd!
Hi Fran - I like this, and the use of the rear gelled light. The image has an oriental feel about it.
I've done a mod which addresses 2 ideas I had whilst looking at the image;
It's worth experimenting with white balance depending on the colours and tones you have in your image - with the pink dress and rear light, I've simulated a cool white balance of 4000 ish, turning the grey bg to a soft blue which complements the pink tones. A personal choice, yes, but worth considering and experimenting with.
I think it would enhance the image if the rear gelled light were to create more of a rim light to the subject, and whilst it does this partially, could be more even and widespread. It may mean using another gelled light(s) behind the subject and camera right and/or left. I use speedlites for this and they work quite effectively. If you're metering, these need to be set closest to your target aperture for them to show up, with your key light being 1/2 - 2/3 stop lower powered. I then tweak the subject in PostP to get the overall balance right. The rim lighting would also give more depth to the image.

A striking portrait image! Fantastic colours, and great composition!
Cheers

A lovely image Fran with a modern feel to it, like the model and colours but the top RH corner (which has been mentioned) could be improved, overall a great presentation, well done,

Nicely composed and taken image, but I think the position of her eyes let her appear absent-minded, or indifferent. I'm affraid I have to admit I don't think I like that...

A good modern portrait image Fran.
I personally don't like the dark make-up, but it does work well in this image. However, if you are having dark lipstick make sure that all the lips are dark. At the moment, the model has licked her lips leaving a light central area. Also the whites of the eyes look unnaturally clear white. The dress is ruffled by the hands, which would have looked better with a smoother finish.
All in all, despite these minor nitpicks, a good effort.
Derek
