After seeing some excellent off camera flash shots, I decided to give it a try myself. Jessops 360AFDN flash connected via Yongnuo SC-28A cable (from Amazon) to the left facing down mounted on a Velbon CX Mini tripod. Manual set to 1/16 power. Manual exposure on camera. Black card background.
