I thought this image would help to explain and illustrate the purpose of focus-stacking. I took thirteen pics of this ruler, focussing on different points along its length from front to back. I then used Combine ZM to focus-stack them. As you can see, the apparent depth of field is amazing. The program is very adept - look along the graduations and see if you can spot the overlays. The original image will stand magnification of the final millimetres, and they are all sharp!
