It looks to me somewhat like Caterpillar tracks on a tank - including some wonderful shadows and rust.

Not just an enigma but a cracking shot as well. Superbly lit and with great rusty texture and shapes. My first thought was caterpillar tracks too. Well seen and taken.

Yes it is a caterpillar track but no one has identified on which item of plant ~ there is a big clue here.
