As this is my 1000th gallery picture I thought I'd have a go at something different (for me). As my 1st photo was a holiday snap of my daughter Sarah I decided to end my 1st thousand with a another shot of Sarah.
This one was taken inside using an umbrella bought on Ebay, off camera flash and a cheap Ebay flash trigger.
Please let me know what you think as this is my 1st attempt with this sort of set up.

Many thanks to Pamela (pamelajean) for the critique on my last upload that was PM'd to me.

I am no expert at portraiture in fact I know very little on the subject but I know that the eyes are very important and you have made a good job with these, I would be pleased with this result, a lovely model too. - gary

She has beautiful eyes which you've captured perfectly. Not a clue re portraits but this seems a lovely, natural one to me.

Lovely portrait Alan - if this is your first attempt then you have made a cracking job of it - her eyes are fab. Well done for your 1000th pic.

It's a beautiful portrait, you've captured her beauty, especially her eyes perfectly. Maybe you should have put the original one as well so that we can see the difference.

I like your lighting---
I also have a daughter called Sarah-- similar coloring, not quite so red--same freckles!

A nice portrait image, Alan! I agree with the comments left by other people.....you've captured her eyes very nicely, perfect exposure and lovely composition!

The only negative thing that I could say is that I'm not fond of the background. I'd prefer a plain background rather than the patterned background that you've used.

Apart from that, as I said, I think it's a nice natural portrait! Smile

Cheers

Phil

3 things come to me on this. Good use of the off camera flash and you have retained a good balance with just about the right balance. I would have preferred her eyes looking slightly towards you and also a reflector would have bounced light back into the shadows to bring out the hair more. Like Phil says as well not sure about the bg with the folds though
