Thanks for all the votes and comments on the Marbled Fritillary, very much appreciated as always.
This little stunner is a male Scarce Copper. I have wanted a good open wing shot of this amazing little butterfly ever since Piluca showed me them 3 years ago, and finally i nailed one in the meadow in Miraflores.
Flying home this afternoon and tomorrow i'm meeting up with Ray Seagrove and Tomcat to try and find Purple Emperors, though looking at the weather forecast that's going to be quite a challenge!

Another Iberian gem Nigel
Folks from all over the country at Fermyn yesterday, but nowt showed, apart from high up in the tree tops![]()
Just wasn't warm enough in the morning
As it stands at the moment, the forecast is none to good for tomorrow![]()
Spoke with Ray briefly yesterday - meet up opposite the glider club, by the best ride for the BF's. Take the turn for Lyvedon New Bield, just after the main entrance to Fermyn Woods, off the A6116

Absolutely top drawer Nigel, the colour and detail are immaculate, I'm not surprised you were chuffed to bits to catch this little beauty basking with open wings. I hope you know what you've let yourself in for going on a photoshoot with the infamous Tomcat, don't say I didn't warn you!![]()

fantastic capture! I have put the spot on my wishlist for Spetember ![]()
This one's a real stunner! Pristine butterfly and love the curved flower stem. The soft tones of the vbackground really make the butterfly jump out!
I have seen these a lot in Switzerland and like you have always wanted a good open winged shot but no joy as yet. They are either roosted or hyper. Not found them in between! Also, when it's hot and they do settle it's always with wings three quarters open which isn't nice for a decent photo. This one looks a very co-operative subject!
