My wife Lesley and I took a run down to Scotney last weekend, mainly to try out her new Canon G12 but of course my camera came along as well. I knew that at the time we would be there the light would be quite harsh and the best I would get in colour might be a bit 'chocolate boxy' which is not what I wanted. So I went with the intention of shooting mono. This is my favourite from that afternoon.
processed in ACR/Nex Silver fx proII/CS4.

Thanks Lesley
(My) Lesley is having great fun with the G12. She's using it in Auto at the mo, and producing some very nice images. The idea was to get her something that she can get more out of if her interest grows.

Excellent mono, Derek, but you've also found a really good, balanced composition as well.

Somewhere new for me - so I did a little reading on it. Midsummer Night's Dream has apparently been performed in the gardens here in the past. The light is quite strong producing some good shadows, and your exposure is excellent - it works well as a mono.

Fine detail shown in this mono Derek. It's a beautiful location, one that I've not thought about capturing in mono, think I'll think again now Smile

Great mono. G12 is a good little camera. I use one as a carry around camera - I find it great for close up work. Steve

Nicely done and this kind of thing always works well in black and white, especially with some clouds in the sky. Could you have moved to the left to remove the stonework from the bottom right, or am I suggesting that you jump into the moat? Smile

Dave.

That stonework troubles me a little as well Dave but there was an even more obtrusive lump of masonry just out of shot on the left. Compromises, compromises...
