And I always thought they were clover! Captioning photos brings a whole new level of education.
The pinks where growing on a rock that I thought looked good with a back drop of the Black Cuillin mountains, taken from left of the harbour at Elgol.

I decided to desaturate the background to add emphasis to the flowers all done in Lightroom.

Nicely processed without going overboard. The dappled light across the Cuillin is good to see, and see you can, all the way back to Sgurr nan Gillean.

Nice work Pete. Like the balance between the more subdued colours of the bg and the more vibrant fg. Paul

V1 for sure...like the fact that the mountains, these particular mountains, are 'only' the background instead of the focal point.

Colour in a naturally mono landscape.

Effective focus and colour. The pink on grey works well, and just enough detail in the unfocussed bg, incl that boat.

The Pinks project well from the desaturated bg - lichen on the rocks add a nice bit of colour contrast too.

The pink flowers are Sea Thrift (Armeria Maritima) and make a beautiful f/g to that view across to the Cuillins: they seem to carry more impact and 'punch' in V 1, so I think your processing has worked a treat....a fine image, the b/g just OOF but distinct enough to place the shot accurately.
Ronnie.

I can see what you are trying to achieve PeteWink

Flora and fauna photography opens up a totally new learning curve.

When I was a lad, I use to press wild flowers. That was when they were in abundance.
Over the years I have forgotten all of their names, but now I check the books to find out what the bird/butterfly etc; is actually perching onWink

A lovely photo, and well presented. I think the dof adds to the drama of the background. Very well done.
