More from my archives. The steam engines have been in Barry for at least 40 years, they were sent to a Barry scrapyard in the 60's but like many others they survived the torch. Most of the steam engines currently running in the UK came from Woodhams scrapyard. These images are of the last ones to leave. The diesel engine was running when I visited in June.

When I was very much younger, I remember going to Barry on a trip with my parents in a coach.
I especially remember climbing into engines that had very recently been parked, the fires were still alight allbeit very low. As I recall the smell and sight was great. These shots bring back good memories, like running up the hill on the way to school and looking over the bridge just as the train was leaving the station, and getting all smokey and dirty before school. Great.

Allan
a great set of images, I'm glad they survived and are being used again,
Chris.
It's great to think these rusty relics do make it back on to the tracks it would be a shame if they had been scraped
nice set of images

Wonderful series of the "Barry Ten", one or two look like they will now be reincarnated as different classes of engine ![]()

Great set of images. I am sure they will all run again one day.

A fine series of images, you see lots like these abandoned outside Gloucester station and outside Temple Meads in Bristol
Super set of pics. Very nostalgic.
A friend of mine filmed the last steam engine to be rebuilt at Swindon Railway works. Besides the 16mm film he and his Dad and brother took about 2000 slides of the work in progress.
These pics of yours are an important record.
Chris
