This is a close up/abstract of the sculpture of a giant aeolian harp, designed to resonate and sing with the wind without any electrical power or amplification. Vibrations in strings attached to some of the tubes are transferred through skins covering the tops, and projected down through the tubes towards the viewer standing beneath the arch. More information here - http://www.lukejerram.com/aeolus - where you can even have a listen. An earlier upload of mine shows the sculpture in full.

I'm so pleased to find that this is real, not digital art as I suspected from the thumbnail! It's a beautiful image, clean, bright, dynamic - and perfectly exposed. (Not an easy one, I think... )
I love the irregularity of the arrangement. This just sings out!

Wow, thank-you everyone for your great comments and to mrswooybill (Moira) for the UA. Getting the exposure right was a bit tricky in bright sunlight as there was a huge risk of overexposing the highlights or loosing too much detail in the shadows. Ivor, the colour inside the tubes is grass reflected from below.
Thanks Nathan, I can assure you that the sculpture sounded nothing like as good as Mr Oldfields album ![]()
. but fascinating none the less (or eerie as Diane has said). ![]()
