Had a bit of a play with one of my recent Dark hedges photos and came up with this. Its supposed to be a sinister figure holding a knife. Is this what you feel when looking at it ?
Opinions appreciated. Smile

Thanks
Gary

edit : ive uploaded the reaper version following suggestions and made it a bit moodier.

very sinister - work a treat.
If I were being a bit picky - could you take out the puddle, bit too bright for the rest of the shot, apart from that - love it

Leaving the figure out of the discussion for a second Gary, that really is a superb image. The quality of light, the trees receding into the distance, the reflection in the puddle .... marvellous.

I like the figure and I like the shadow, but sinister no ... not for me, intriguing would be a better description. Difficult at this size to see that it's a knife. Maybe a scythe, easier to see, and call it The Reaper. Or move the figure to the side of the lane and rename "The Hitcher".

Whatever we're niggling now .... I've not typed this much in a while so I must like it Smile

I thought this photo stands out and really catches my eye. I didn' paticularly think t was sinister, but maybe that 's just my way of thinking. I do think it's a great and unusual composition.
The puddle in the foeground helps to balance the composition.
Nice shot

Sinister to me - if I saw this Sillhouette on the road infront of me in the middle of a wood - I`d turn around and walk the other way!
The image itself is spot on - great work.

Must admit the first thing I thought when I looked at it was ... should have had a scythe ... but that being said a lovely atmospheric shot ... perhaps a little too light from the side to be called "sinister" but perhaps it would work in B & W???

That's beautifully done, Gary.

As Dave say, however, I'm not sure that sinister is quite the right word! Mysterious; eerie; intriguing .... all spring to mind.

I think the ethereal effect you have develeoped would benefit from being considerably darker and also that much, much less colour would really suit this well. Even a completely mono or toned treatment (greenish seems to be foremost in my mind) would work very well, imo. Perhaps even with some added monochromatic noise, to accentuate the fogginess.
Oh, and a MUCH bigger knife.
Or a scythe, as has been already said!
An opinion, for what it's worth!

I like it a lot!

Cheers

Bill

These trees with this light and a silhouette going away would be priceless. Here the strong light on the earth and the shadow somehow contradict each other. Nevertheless an attracting image.

reminds me of John Carpenters the fog as they come through the lit fog brandishing their swords....scared me anyway, well done its ace

It's a well crafted image my friend, great place and the light you've organised is, tremendous. Now the buts, I agree with Sue about the puddle take the colour out or blur it a little, but my main comment get shot of the knife.
You don't need it, and it's the object of misery for so many families around the country with kids carrying the cursed things and killing other kids, we need to be responsible too and lets not glamorize them in any way.
I think the image looks good and spooky and I would be looking for a chippie if I was seeing this myself.

Just want to say that in no way was i trying to glamourise carrying knives. I understand where you are coming from Dougie but it was really a spooky cinematic feel i was going for. I despise the knife wielding yobs as much as anyone.
I actually prefer Daves idea of the reaper so ill have a go and upload that version too.

Brilliant work, like what you have done here but sinister is not what sprang to mind."Hitcher" as someone mentioned above,"Hunted" maybe, love the colour and light, the puddle works for me if a little bright.
Love V2,the light catching the blade, rays of light catching the tree branches,,but this could be good without Mr Reaper,,
Just to be akward how about putting Mr Reaper in no,1 ,,

OH MY WOW! This is such a wonderful shot. Personally, I don't think it needed the figure in there to be sinister. You could have done just that with the darkness of the tree branches and leaving the bright light out. What I would say about the figure is that it certainly draws you further into the picture leaving you with the feeling of wanting to know more/follow him. I would not say the figure looks like they have a knife. Very intriguing and a fantastic composition.

A wonderful pic. It doesn't feel sinister to me. Its too beautiful an image to be that, I think.

What is waiting beyond ? I love the tunnel created of trees and light behind the figure, the shadow and the mist. The composition and concept are on spot for me, though the knife (if that is a knife) is a bit cliche for me. Great photo.
