The image was colored using layers in Photoshop Elements.

Hi John,

Thank you for your comments. Using an off camera flash certainly helped. I pointed it slightly forward from the right hand side so it did not illuminate the background and partially lit the smoke from the side and behind. The color was added in Photoshop using layers and graduated fills.

I also used a small whisk to waft and create a bit of turbulence...
