this is my first photo up for your opinions i would appreciate your comments good and bad and any advice on improvements thanks in advance

Very warm wekcome Shaun, this is a nice first upload very nice clarity on the snail cropping off part of the bottom of the leaf would improve the composition,

Hi Shaun, interesting idea showing the snail slime.
Couple of points strike me about the image. You have clipped the edge off the snail shell and a lot of the leaf is out of focus. Attention to detail will fix the first problem, if your garden in anything like mine you will have ample chance to try again.
When shooting with a macro lens the depth of field is very shallow. Try to shoot flat on to large flat subjects to get as much of the subject in focus as possible. This is especialy true of butterflies for example. If you intended part of the leaf to be out of focus then you have accomplished your vision but the advice will still hold for other occasions.
Above all else have fun with your photography. I usually enjoy taking the photos far more than looking at the results.
