This refersto the York name for Alley's or Passeges. For some reason they are called Snickleway's or Ginnel's by the people of York. My wife's father used to know everyone of them when he 'Wor a lad.' The pub this sign refers to used to be called The Anglers Arms and has a sad memory for my wifes family, but that's another story.

I've heard of a ginnel but not a snickleway - but I'm always keen to add to my vocabulary! An excellent sign with a suitably mysterious atmosphere.

Great shot
