Picture Books in Winter
by Robert Louis Stevenson
Summer fading, winter comes--
Frosty mornings, tingling thumbs,
Window robins, winter rooks,
And the picture story-books.
Water now is turned to stone
Nurse and I can walk upon;
Still we find the flowing brooks
In the picture story-books.
All the pretty things put by,
Wait upon the children's eye,
Sheep and shepherds, trees and crooks,
In the picture story-books.
We may see how all things are
Seas and cities, near and far,
And the flying fairies' looks,
In the picture story-books.
How am I to sing your praise,
Happy chimney-corner days,
Sitting safe in nursery nooks,
Reading picture story-books?
Sorry to be so seldom present here, but there's such a lot going on here, with winter progressing I hope to be able to join you more often...
I hope you all have a lovely second Advent Sunday.
Cheerio,
Johanna

Magical snow in both Johanna, don't sit on that bench for too long. (You ever had a numb bum?) It's all been coming to Scotland from your side for a change. The snow on the moor looks just like your view across the road.
Try to stay wrm and don't knock yourself out over Cristmas, I know you will of course.
Dougie
Just had a look at V1 and all in needs is some sprinkles, a huge big trifle, need a hand to finish it? Yummy.
I don't know if you'd really like it, but you're welcome to showel it away Dougie. Anytime! ![]()
Johanna
Listen to the silence...
V1 is simple and evocative, particularly beautiful.

My My Johanna; it looks as if winter has finally wrapped you into its bosom. The low light in V1 is a superb example of how to expose for snow. Most people just produce an expanse of white but here we can see every wrinkle and dimple and it looks superb.
Ron
Both very lovely, Johanna; typical of your winter and now starring over here too. Mind you, I am content to observe from indoors.......

the snow does have its advantages at times and allows a picture or two before it becomes boring when you cant get out of the house, well done on a superb picture not one but two
I just love the low angle on this and the side lighting which picks out out all the bumps and ripples in the snow in V1, Johanna. Bet there won't be many people sit on that seat in V2!

What a wonderful POV in V1 Johanna, you must have either lain down in the snow to get that, or the D3000 has a swivelling screen! So nice to be viewing snow without having any, we've been exceedingly lucky so far, don't have to go far for a much different picture! Don't think there'll be many takers for the bench!
Rgds., Jim
Two very good captures of the snow - the exposure is spot on - so often we see grey snow, here it is that glorious white!
