Like you you've directed the eye straight to the subject(s) by rendering the rest of the image OOF........a technique is was reading about in Photoshop Elements 11 recebtly.
Works very nicely here.
Of the two versions, the coloured my favourite, Ania.

An image which according to the so called rules shouldn't work but does. Well seen and produced and the colour version gets the vote.
