Fabulous low light image. Love the composition and reflections.
Wonderful shot. I read about this amazing device - and it makes a good photo subject with those artistic lines!
This looks really gloomy and shooting into what sun there was has caused the machinery to become slightly underexposed.
I've uploaded a mod. in which I've increased the exposure, adjusted levels, shadows/highlights and cloned out the branches etc. at the bottom.
I've tried to draw out some detail whilst retaining the overall sombreness.
Given more time, I could also have cloned out the blown part of the sky (which I've made worse!), especially as it looks OK in the reflection.
Hope it's OK.
I like it, though think it could be lightened a tad unless you were going for a George Orwell 1984 look.
I tried a mod more for fun where Ive placed the centre on a third.
thanks for crits
I really don't get this Ian - IMHO this is way below your usual standard and looks as if you just made a jpeg of the raw file, with none of your trademark post-work. As Willie suggests, maybe you were trying for Orwell-esque (or Jester suggests "sombre" ) , but I don't think the subject matter suits that at all.
A boost in contrast and exposure is essential IMO. I'm surprised nobody's mentioned that the verticals are off -plumb. Any point in the reflection is slightly to the right of its matching "real" point, showing an anticlockwise rotation of a degree or so...nitpicking maybe but IMO essential in reflection studies.
I haven't bothered re the "variations" cos they're not variations on this shot, they're different shots taken in the same place.
Just my honest opinion here - I'm sure you can pull a much better image out of this
