OK, fair enough !!.....you were there & I wasn't !......I've never seen this tail-feather configuration on a Kite before ?, but doing a bit of research
via Google etc., I've found 2 other photographs which are similar to your shot......so a new one on me !!......Red Kite it is !!!!

Perhaps you've found a new sub-species of a "Fan-tailed-Kite" ????????........cracking shot either way !!!!

If the forked tail feathers, which a Red Kite definitely has, were angled towards the camera at the point of shutter release then the impression of a Buzzard-like tail would clearly occur. Cheers.......
