...the cold wind was sharp as I stood here, but the cold coming through my boots in the river was creeping in slowly at first then my feet started to lose feeling as I waited for the light to get through the clouds.

I don't do silky milky, the rivers and burns of Scotland run with clear water, very cold most of the time too.
Excellent winter scene and beautifully captured.

Brave man standing in what looks a fairly fast flowing torrent, esp. given the cold: a fine shot, Dougie, as ever from you as well composed.
I too much prefer the waters not to have a milky appearance, except perhaps in waterfalls where they form the main subject and filling the frame.
Ronnie.
great water movement, milky does not always please or work so well![]()
Amazing definition in the foreground, Dougie. Two areas in the light separated by the river banks - impeccable composition.
My feet get cold even when the ambient temperature is in the upper teens Celsius: I can only admire your stoicism!
Regards
Bill
Quote: then my feet started to lose feeling as I waited for the light to get through the clouds.
The things we do for our art! This one was worth it though.
The clear water is what makes this work for me, Dougie. To see the detail under the surface of the water, instead of a milky blanket.
You feel the coldness around your poor feet by seeing the coldness in the water, something you don't get the feeling of with milky.
A very dramatic divide between the fg brown and the distant winter white.

(One honest comment is worth many a vote, my friend)
Magnificent....as I would say "I wish it was mine" here, my award with envy attached ![]()
Many thanks for the interest in this image and especially to Alan Coles for his UA, a great boost in this cold weather. ![]()
Clear, cold water coming from a cold background, nice timing on the water, it is so clear, I have the feeling I could sip it from the screen! It sure would ease my homesickness! ![]()
