That really is peculiar Dougie - it looks like a giant mobile phone aerial. The mixture of lovely light on the hill and the showers is very atmospheric.

A really beautiful image, a very strange formation indeed, but a real bonus.

The light catching on the snow capped peak contrasts so well with the heavily shadowed f/g, Dougie: wonderful light and winter colouring, and it does look COOOOOOLD.

Bizarre, never seen anything like that - I shall come back in the hope that someone with meteorological experience can give an explanation! I know you don't like sending photos to the BBC Weather people but they can be very informative on such matters.

Not "Krakatoa East of Inverness"?
Very striking; must have been amazing to see 'in the flesh'.
The light on that snowbound peak is fabulous.

Beautiful shot !!!....love the light catching the top !!

Can't explain the cloud formation ??.....but even the name 'Alligin' has always sounded a bit creepy, so perhaps
there's some deep goings-on atop that craggy peak ???????.Smile

Thanks for all your comments and ideas, I have to say that the mark in my opinion is a snow drop or two which fell on my Lee filter, it's quite a big target.

I have to say that I was worried at firts when I saw it that all the images were marked, fortunately just a couple.

I prefer to ignore your somewhat fantasy-filled explanation, Dougie and believe instead in the supernatural as being a more realistic explanation.Wink
No matter, it does nothing to detract from what is a magnificent view, beautifully captured. That brooding, threatening sky could just have produced such a phenomenon.

A good comp here, even without unusual gaps in the clouds. The weather is the real star here; dramatic clouds and sunlit snow. It's great!
