Two more images from the Cité de la musique, at La villette on the eastern outskirts of Paris. These are heads of viols (an instrument otherwise known as the viola da gamba)
No flash or tripods allowed - well we didn’t have the tripod with us anyway. See Exif for the details.
Thanks for looking,
Moira

Thanks Sue. The lighting was tricky, with lots of spotlights bouncing off glass, in otherwise near-darkness. I couldn't avoid them so I tried to make a feature of them.

The high iso has resulted in a nice texture but I must say its not excessive as the camera's dealt with it very well. - gary

Such magnificent carving. It is said the instrument has a soul, and this one has a face as well. v1 is brilliant.

I'll have to look closer at musical instruments if there's detail like this that I've missed. A magical find Moira well spotted in the gloom.

What a lovely idea to put a face on an instrument, giving it a character and a personality, super dof here, and you did wonders getting images in this place.

Love the light on the little carved face. She's watching you and protecting the instruments. Excellent capture in V1, especially. Like V2 also, but not nearly as much............Sandy

Beautiful comments, that's how I feel. Plus I see these faces as speaking to us from the past. Thanks everyone, I'm back from school, need to spend a little while catching up with what's been happening here.

Lovely pair of images, and such wonderful carving, think V1 for me. Looks like a figurehead on the prow of a ship and reminds me of a film. I can't think what though ..... it's going to bug me now until I do! Smile

I never realised they made musical instruments so ornate Moira.
They never did with that triangle I used to play in the school band !!
(And I really did play it in the school band !!)
Mick.

Two nice images, Moira! I like both, however, with my arm twisted I'd say the 1st is the most effective! Nice colours, tones and composition! Well spotted and captured!

Cheers

Selective focus, bokeh, spectral highlights - it's all here, beautifully captured.

Bokeh, and those spectral highlights are all the rage on certain sites these days....................
