Thanks Rod! I realize that I like diagonals, which is great news since I was afraid I would always be a "square" person due to my professional training and, I am not! Smile
Thanks for commenting on the pictures!

There is a harsh, commanding power to V3 which is strangely compelling, but the freshness of the colour one wins out for me today.
It is always surprising that your variations can appeal in such very different ways. I think the strength of your composition holds the key to that.

Thank you Eric and Jenn. I thoroughly enjoy the reactions of the educated viewers like you.
Every time I decide my upload I cannot but think that someone will ask for the color version or the mono version, so I upload them both so everyone will have a say.
I started the edition of this image with V3, I must confess I found it unusually strong.
Love your analyses. Thank you.

I'm finding V3 just too dark for me but the mono version has so many tones and when hovering the mouse over it,
I can see colours popping through but again my favourite is the colour version Marian.
You have such fun with these shapes and patterns.

Yes I do! Kate, I spend several hours looking at the image and cropping 10 different ways until I am satisfied. The whole process is like doing meditation to me.
Thanks for the comments, I am grateful for the attention you give them.

I love the diagonal perspective which you have captured whilst the monochrome really brings the image to life. Images two and three although very good sadly remain in those positions.

I love the composition and value range of V1, Marian. It is a wonderful and dramatic photo......I think the color in the next is distracting, and the third is strong but is too "black", lacking the tonal range of V1.

Hi Marian, V1, one of your best to date. Just one very, very minor suggestion, crop down a couple of mill' and you'll loose the light spot top RH corner. Have a go at using the camera in manual exposure mode, you'll get a lot more out of it. Best regards, Si.

Hi Marian...
I find the blue sky in V2 a bit distracting, but very much like the richness of colour in the wood. Not crazy about V3, perhaps you've taken it just a bit too far... it might look better on the grey background. No colour or tone has an absolute value, its value or meaning is always dependent on what other colour/tone is next to it. Perhaps, as photographers, that's something we need to bear in mind, not just in the making of an image, but also in its presentation.

V1, on the other hand, is great.Smile

Hola Si! I will have to learn about the manual mode on my new cameras. My little Kodak fell very very hard on a concrete bench about a month ago, and died in impact...Sad
I already bought two cameras and am waiting for them to come from the U.S. in a week or two.
Thanks for the suggestion, I thought about retouching that slit of light but didn't want to "cheat". I didn't even sharpen this one, only a bit of contrast and then applied a color filter.

Alan, I was determined not to waste that image for V3, that must have happened to you sometimes, I assume. I knew it wasn't good, but I wanted feedback, and it has confirmed my judgement...It is not good! hahahahaha!

I always keep in mind what my dad always said when he taught me how to assess a good picture, "if it is all grey, it is not good, it has to have shades". All I know about photography I learned when I was 15...Just like 10 years ago, so it is still fresh in my mind. hahahahaha!
