Having just had some excellent tuition from Mark Bauer earlier this week, probably the most important thing I learned was to get to the location early enough to give plenty of time to set up and work out compositions. Sadly I singularly failed to do so with this one, but did manage to find an angle on the piers without the intrusive plastic pontoon currently situated to the left of what is showing of the old pier. With little time to work out a decent composition, the main mistake I made was in not zooming in, so this is a fairly hefty crop of the original.

Just starting to process using Lightroom 4 and I know I have a great deal to learn there too, so I very much welcome critique and mods.

Many thanks for C&Cs yesterday, another one in unfamiliar territory.

A decent well composed image. I think too many people get over involved with software and processing. Some is almost always needed, but it seems to me that many over complicate.

I like it very much, Sandra, and your 6 second exposure has smoothed the water nicely.
I can only see one figure standing on the pier, and this figure is inevitably blurred. I considered cloning it out, but saw that the flags on the left were moving, too, and so left the figure in when I did my modification.
What I did clone out was the little boat top left because it is quite close to the lamps. I removed the buoys, too, because they just looked like blobs.
I like the little slant you have achieved, and all of your verticals are vertical.
I added canvas to the bottom of your image because I felt it looked more balanced. The amount of sky above the new pier now corresponds better to the amount of water below the old one.
Pamela.

I think there are a few too many comments here which are not critique and to me, seem to belong more in the general gallery.

This is a very good effort and the milky water, which I don't generally like, suits the mood (or maybe makes it!). Compositionally adding a bit of cancas to tyhe bootom as Pamela or an alternative is to add some to the top instead, both appear to balance the picture up a little. The small craft top left, to me needs to be cloned a out as it catches the eye and also is sailing out of your picture, the small buoys then will look like spots and also would IMHO be better away. The mood created here seems better with less, if you see what I mean. Sometime less gives more.

Frank

i like the color, giving the cool sensation to me. but i don't like the composition. the piers too horizontal to me, i prefer more diagonal or vertical. and i think the old piers doesn't add nothing to the whole scene.
